About
Detton Beef & Lamb
Top
Quality Meat Straight from our Shropshire Farm
Detton Beef
and Lamb began quietly in 1992! It operated on a small scale from
the farm kitchen for several years, supplying family and friends.
In the last 5 years the business has expanded considerably, developing
farmgate sales, selling at farmers markets, farm shops and into
other local businesses.
Detton Beef and Lamb is now an integral part of our farming operation.
Detton Hall Farm is a traditional mixed family farm, which would
have faced severe financial difficulties in the last 10 years
without the development of sales through Detton Beef and Lamb.
Instead of cutting back, we have been able to maintain the staff
employed on the farm and create jobs in the meat business.
It has been possible to maintain traditional farming practices
which are sympathetic to the beautiful countryside in which we
live and work.
All the animals are fed homegrown cereals and grass and are reared
extensively, with the emphasis on a natural balanced system. The
stock are allowed to mature slowly at grass, in a stress free
environment, which means tastier, tender meat. We sell only our
own, home reared beef and lamb ensuring consistent quality throughout
the year.
We use a local
abattoir, and by selling into the local area, we keep food miles
to a minimum. We are members of the regional food group, "Heart
of England Fine Foods" and Worcestershire Farmers Market
Group.
Detton Hall Farm is a registered and approved member of FABBL
(Farm Assured British Beef and Lamb)
We have two
open days on the farm each year, look out for dates in the newsletters
We believe
that we offer an absolutely top quality product. By selling direct,
we give very good value and provide a wide range of products to
suit anyone. We believe that good quality British meat should
not be a luxury item but available on every budget. We usually
run a special offer , and offer an excellent value "family
pack" to put in the freezer.
We aim to
produce a really good product by doing our job carefully and thoroughly
from beginning to end. The animals are reared with care and sympathy,
and the land is nurtured to produce good crops of grass and corn.
The stock are selected only when they are ready and dispatched
quickly. The carcasses are hung properly (at least 3 weeks in
the case of the beef) and then butchered with care. We also make
(by hand) our own sausages, and burgers and offer all cuts of
meat, prepared at our own shop, where we pride ourselves on attention
to detail.
At
the end of the process we have a product that looks good, cooks
well, and tastes superb!
